26.06.18 - Uma vez na vida e outra na morte

Halloooo,

Good to talk at t'weekend.  I'm more or less over the dose of flu that kept me housebound and left me no choice but to watch every match at the World Cup last week.   Indeed, we had a pretty lively weekend involving not one but two kinds of fondue on Friday night at a Swiss-style chalet in Morumbi that had a piano-player who belted out "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" on request.

Then on Saturday we went to a huge plot of land out east with endless skewers of meat on tap and huge screens showing Germany Germany'ing their way out of trouble against the Swedes, to see Guilherme off to Santa Catarina where he's starting a new life with his bride-to-be.  In the evening Ridaut gave us a sneak preview of his TED talk, and the next day we took Zila out for a pastel and a barrage of free fruit at the extremely World Cup-themed Mercadão, having watched England tear Panama a new canal in the morning.

On that note, I've made a regular compilation and a second World Cup-themed compilation - one song per country - before half the teams head home. I've also enjoyed this video of Paul McCartney touring Liverpool (he was born in Nantwich, don't you know); meanwhile this week's phrase is the Brazilian equivalent of "once in a blue moon": "one time in life and another time in death".

Speak soon!
