28.02.23 - Cerca-Lourenço

Halloooo,

Hope all well!

We've turned our house into a building site again, with multiple tradesmen coming and going to paint walls and hopefully undo the shoddy work of the last set of builders. Luckily Sherlock is in something of a post-Carnaval lull because there's a lot of extra stuff going on and the home office environment is far from ideal...

Elsewhere we managed to get out and about a bit at the weekend, and finally got to see "Everything Everywhere All At Once" on streaming, which is highly recommended. I made another compilation, and my phrase of the day ("cerca-Lourenço") refers to people who beat around the bush when talking, often as a means of currying favour.

That's all for noo, speak soon!

21.02.23 - Pau que dá em Chico dá em Francisco

Hallooooo,

Hope all well!

A busy week has given way to the extended Carnaval weekend - the first of its kind since before the pandemic - which still involved plenty of work for muggins here, only set against a backdrop of people going absolutely wild in the pouring rain, which rather concerningly seems to have wiped the north coast of São Paulo off the map.

I've never really got involved in the festivities before, so no sense of FOMO here, but it's nice to see everyone who isn't literally underwater having a lovely time for a change. Plus we took advantage of the long weekend to get out of town for a nice lunch in Campinas and a swim in the in-laws pool, which is always welcome.

In other news my first collaboration with a funny internet woman came out on Thursday to great acclaim, I've made another compilation, and my phrase of the day is a surprisingly deep rumination on the equality of all in the eyes of the law: "the stick that hits Chico also hits Francisco", where "Chico" is a lowly nobody and Francisco is a valued member of society, but "Chico" is also the diminutive version of "Francisco", so in a stunning twist it turns out we're, like, all the same, maaan.

Something to think about anyway! Speak soon,

14.02.23 - Lima nova

Halloooo,

Hope all well with youuuu!

It's been a busy old week here, as Sherlock flew in its employees from all over Latin America for a week of crowded coworking, sightseeing and general debauchery. I mostly stayed out of it but went in on Tuesday and Wednesday to rehearse some covers with the Sherlock house band, and then played a set at the staff party on Friday, which garnered rave reviews. There's some footage here, although it might be available to employees only...

The party itself was fun but almost comically drawn out, starting with a lecture on cryptocurrencies at 11am for some reason, followed by lunch, nibbles, dinner, drinks, our concert, and finally a jig to local hits on the dancefloor. Saturday brought little respite, with a birthday party at a craft brewery, and on Sunday Gaby recorded more of her course while I got some work done and took in a moving picture (The Banshees of Inisherin - recommended!) at the nearby shopping centre.

In the midst of all that I brokered a collaboration with another up-and-coming Instagram comic which should be published some time this week; made not one but two new compilations; and came across a new saying ("lima nova" or "new wood file") which refers to someone who is new on the job and doesn't really know what they're doing, but means well.

Speak soon! xx

07.02.23 - Matar um leão por dia

Halloooo,

Hope all well, and good to talk at the weekend.

Plenty going on here, none of it particularly interesting to the untrained eye but we're definitely keeping ourselves busy and trying to pivot to something less labour-intensive by the middle of the year.

I've made another, all-female playlist, and my phrase of the day means "to kill a lion a day", or to tackle one's problems one at a time. And that's about it for now - enjoy Paris, and we shall speak anon!

Ciao for now,
And if I only could, I'd make a deal with Frod
