Good to speak the other day - you'll be pleased to hear our wallpaper intifada has ended, and now comes the time of the great sanding, glory be to spackling. Otherwise it's cold and grey and the city is in a bit of a lull, in between civilisation-threatening industrial action and the World Cup. Looking forward to things picking up a bit, football and band practice coming back, etc.
In the meantime I've made a mixtape, and my phrase of the week is one of a seemingly endless supply of euphemisms that Brazilians have for defecating, including "depressurizar o cabine" ("depressurise the cabin"), "liberar o refém" ("release the hostage") and, bizarrely enough, "fazer um TED" ("deliver a TED talk"). "Mandar os amigos do interior para o Rio" literally means "send friends from the country to Rio", with a few double-meanings ("interior" can mean the Brazilian hinterland or one's innards, and Rio of course means "river"). So there's that.
