20.10.26 - Chutar o pau da barraca

Halloooo,

Hope all well. Amelie's sleep patterns are suddenly all over the shop, after a relatively stable few months, so we've been rocking her back to sleep to the dulcet tones of forró and getting some shut-eye of our own when we can.

She also gets extremely bored and aggro in the flat, so we went to the park over the weekend (testing out our new hands-free sling!), and to another kid's birthday party on Sunday, where she was the centre of attention and had a great time.

In other news I've assembled another playlist, and my phrase of the day ("chutar o pau da barraca") means to lose patience and freak out - literally, "kick the stand out from the tent". And on that note!

Speak soon,

13.10.26 - Em terra de onça, águia não se cria

Hallooooo,

Hope all well. We had a long weekend here in Brazil - including Children's Day on Monday - and mainly spent it flopping about at home, although we managed a trip up into the mountains for a nice lunch on the Saturday. All in all, compelling evidence for a permanent three-day weekend: one day for relaxing, one for going out and seeing people, and a third day for getting one's life in order.

I've made a new compilation, and my phrase of the week comes from a sign I saw at Sunday's Avenida Paulista pro-Lula march - "in the land of the leopard, no one raises eagles". A timely rebuke to the influence of the US government, plus it reminds me of one my favourite movie lines.

That's all for now - speak soon!

06.10.26 - Deu ruim

Hallooooo,

Hope all well. We went out to vote at Gaby's old school on Sunday (taking Amelie with us so Gaby could skip the queue!), and thanks to Brazil's high-falutin' electronic voting system, within a matter of hours received the absolutely catastrophic election results that sent us into a bit of a tailspin. But we also had a nice lunch, so, swings and roundabouts.

No compilation this week; instead I recommend this article as a way of trying to make sense of so many Brazilians voting against their own interests... And my phrase of the week simply means... "bugger".

That's all for now, speak soon!
